Does the 500 GB write as fast as the higher capacities?

No. For reads, it reaches 7,300 MB/s like them; for writes, it tops out at 3,900 MB/s, compared with 6,000 on the 1 TB and 7,000 on the 2 TB and 4 TB. The gap therefore affects copying and installing, not loading what is already on the drive.

How much space does the heatsink take up in the machine?

The module stands 10.5 mm high, measures 80 × 23.67 mm and weighs 32.1 g. Measure the clearance above the M.2 slot before ordering: this height may clash with a CPU air cooler or with the first graphics card.

Can it be installed in a PlayStation 5?

Yes, the FURY Renegade is rated as PS5-compatible, and it is precisely this heatsink version that Kingston says adds an extra layer of heat dissipation so that the console does not overheat when gaming gets intense.

How do its random IOPS perform at this capacity?

450,000 read and 900,000 write 4K random IOPS. That is half the read figure of the 1 TB version: in this range, small-access performance increases with capacity, as each step uses more memory chips in parallel.

What is the write endurance of this 500 GB model?

500 TB, or a thousand complete fills of the drive. Relative to its size, this is the same proportion as on the higher capacities, which reach 1 PB on the 1 TB and 4 PB on the 4 TB. The counter can be tracked in the Kingston SSD Manager application.

How much power does it draw at peak?

4.1 W maximum when writing and 2.7 W when reading, with an average of 0.34 W — less than the higher capacities, whose write peak goes up to 10.2 W. It is this energy that the aluminium heatsink is there to dissipate.

Which controller and memory does this SSD use?

A Phison E18 controller, 3D TLC memory and a dedicated DRAM cache. This is the same technical foundation as across the whole FURY Renegade range: what sets the capacities apart is write speed and IOPS, not the design.

Is the drive new and under warranty?

It is new and your invoice serves as the warranty document. It carries the part number SFYRSK/500G — the final K denoting the heatsink version, as opposed to the low-profile heat spreader. The datasheet details both cooling options.
