What PoE budget does the GWN7803P offer, and how many watts per port?
360 W in total, with a maximum of 30 W per port across the 24 RJ45 ports, to the 802.3af and 802.3at standards. If your devices exceed the budget, a priority can be set port by port: critical cameras and access points stay powered, the others are shed. A power cap can also be set on each port.
Can PoE power to the cameras be cut off at set times?
Yes. A user-defined schedule controls the power on each PoE port: handy for switching off Wi-Fi access points outside business hours, or for forcing a frozen device to restart. Dynamic negotiation via LLDP-MED also adjusts the power delivered to what the connected device actually requires.
How many VLANs does the GWN7803P accept, and how are they declared?
4,000 VLANs, with IEEE 802.1Q tagging, port-based VLANs and voice VLAN, plus VLAN virtual interfaces. GVRP, which would distribute VLANs dynamically from one switch to the next, is listed as “pending”: VLANs are therefore declared manually, port by port. Voice traffic is separated onto its own VLAN, with 802.1p priority.
Can the switch itself assign IP addresses to the cameras and phones?
Yes, it has a built-in DHCP server and DHCP relay, with options 82, 60, 160 and 43 — enough to provision IP phones directly. DHCP snooping at the same time filters replies coming from untrusted ports: a router plugged into a network socket by mistake will not hand out addresses to the rest of the network.
How does the GWN7803P react to a cabling loop or an unknown device?
STP, RSTP and MSTP block the redundant link, backed by loop protection, BPDU guard and root guard; storm control caps broadcast bursts. At port level, isolation, port security and the sticky MAC feature shut down a port whose number of learned addresses surges.
Can several ports be aggregated for the link to the network core?
Yes, up to 8 link aggregation groups. Two or four ports — copper or fibre — combine into a single logical link: uplink bandwidth is multiplied and the link survives the loss of a cable. The 4 Gigabit SFP slots also serve as links between buildings, where copper can no longer reach.
Do you need a cloud subscription to manage this switch?
No. Three options coexist: the switch's local web interface, the GWN.Cloud platform and GWN Manager, its version installed on your own network. The controller is built into the web interface at no extra cost. Management is also possible via CLI, over console or Telnet, and via SNMP v1, v2c and v3.
What is in the box, and are the SFP modules included?
The box contains the switch, a 1.2 m (10 A) power cord, the standard rack-mount brackets, a grounding cable, four rubber feet and two cable lugs. The SFP optical modules and the RJ45 patch cables must be provided on your side, depending on the fibre type and the distances to be covered.
What rack depth do you need to allow for the GWN7803P?
The metal chassis measures 440 × 200 × 44 mm: 1U high and only 20 cm deep, so it fits in a shallow wall-mount cabinet. It weighs 3.3 kg, can also sit on a desk or be mounted on a wall, and handles 0 to 45 °C with 10 to 90 % relative humidity, non-condensing.
What diagnostic tools does the interface provide?
Port mirroring to copy traffic to an analyser, ping, traceroute and copper cable test to locate a faulty cable, syslog and alerts, CPU and memory monitoring, LLDP and LLDP-MED for automatic device discovery, SNMP and RMON for reporting to a monitoring console.
What internal performance does this 24-port Gigabit chassis deliver?
56 Gbps of switching capacity, a forwarding rate of 41.66 Mpps and 28 Gbps of total non-blocking throughput: the 24 Gigabit ports and the 4 SFP ports work together with no internal congestion, in store-and-forward mode. The MAC address table holds 8,000 entries and the packet buffer reaches 4.1 Mbit.
How do you restrict network access to authorised devices only?
802.1X authentication, backed by a RADIUS or TACACS+ server, validates each device before opening its port. On top of that come quaternary IP-MAC-VLAN-port binding, MAC address filtering, IP Source Guard, ARP inspection against gateway spoofing and man-in-the-middle attacks, as well as 1,500 IPv4 and IPv6 access control rules.
Is the switch new, and where can I find its full datasheet?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document. The switching, security, quality of service and PoE features of the GWN7800 series are detailed in the manufacturer's document: datasheet (PDF).
