What PoE budget does the GWN7802P offer across its 16 ports?
240 W in total, with a maximum of 30 W per port on the 16 RJ45 ports, to the 802.3af and 802.3at standards. Sixteen cameras at 12 W stay under 200 W; eight Wi-Fi access points at 30 W already use it all. A priority can be set port by port so that critical devices stay powered when the budget runs short.
Can PoE power be scheduled around opening hours?
Yes. A user-defined time schedule controls the power on each port: Wi-Fi access points or displays switch off at night and come back on in the morning, with no intervention. LLDP-MED negotiation also adjusts the power delivered to what the connected device requests.
How many VLANs does this 16-port switch support?
4,000 VLANs, with IEEE 802.1Q tagging, port-based VLANs and voice VLAN, plus VLAN virtual interfaces. GVRP, which would automatically propagate VLANs from one switch to another, is listed as “pending”: VLANs are still declared manually, port by port.
Can the switch hand out IP addresses to connected devices?
Yes: DHCP server and DHCP relay are built in, with options 82, 60, 160 and 43, useful for provisioning IP phones. DHCP snooping only accepts replies on ports declared as trusted, which blocks a router plugged into a wall socket by mistake.
What protection is there against a loop or unauthorised connection?
STP, RSTP and MSTP block the redundant link, backed by loop protection, BPDU guard and root guard. Storm control caps broadcast bursts, while port isolation and the sticky MAC feature disable a port whose learned addresses exceed the limit.
How many links can be aggregated towards the network core?
Eight link aggregation groups: several copper or fibre ports form a single logical link, uplink bandwidth increases accordingly and the link survives the loss of a cable. The 4 Gigabit SFP slots handle fibre links between buildings at the same time.
Do you need a subscription to manage this switch remotely?
No. The local web interface, GWN.Cloud and GWN Manager — the version installed on your own network — work side by side, and the controller is built into the web interface at no extra cost. Management is also available via CLI, over console or Telnet, and via SNMP v1, v2c and v3.
What internal performance does this 16-port model offer?
40 Gbps of switching capacity, 29.76 Mpps forwarding rate and 20 Gbps of total non-blocking throughput, in store-and-forward mode. The MAC address table holds 8,000 entries and the buffer reaches 4.1 Mbit — generously sized for 16 Gigabit ports and 4 fibre links.
How do you restrict network access to authorised computers only?
802.1X authentication, backed by RADIUS or TACACS+, validates each computer before opening its port. On top of that come IP-MAC-VLAN-port four-way binding, MAC address filtering, IP Source Guard, ARP inspection against gateway spoofing and 1,500 IPv4 and IPv6 access control rules.
What diagnostic tools are available from the interface?
Port mirroring to an analyser, ping, traceroute and copper cable testing to locate a faulty cable, syslog and alerts, CPU and memory monitoring, LLDP and LLDP-MED for neighbour discovery, and SNMP and RMON for reporting to a monitoring console.
How much rack space does the GWN7802P take up?
The metal chassis measures 440 × 200 × 44 mm — 1U high, 20 cm deep — and weighs 3 kg: it fits in a shallow wall cabinet. Rack-mounting brackets come with the switch, which can also sit on a desk or be wall-mounted, and it operates from 0 to 45 °C.
