Is this managed switch noisy?
No, not at all: the S310S-24T4JX is passively cooled, with no fan, unlike the PoE models in the same series. This is what allows it to be installed in an office, a meeting room or an area open to the public without any disturbance.
What is the difference between the SFP+ ports and the SFP ports on this model?
The two SFP+ ports run at up to 10 Gbps and serve as the uplink to the network core; the two SFP ports run at 2.5 Gbps, an intermediate speed intended for recent Wi-Fi access points or a link between floors.
Does this model supply PoE power to devices?
No: the S310S-24T4JX is the non-PoE version. Its 24 Gigabit ports carry data only. Cameras and access points that need power require an injector, or the S310S-24P4JX model from the same series with its 400 W budget.
How many VLANs and MAC addresses does this switch handle?
4,094 VLANs and 16,000 MAC addresses maximum, as static, dynamic or blackhole entries to block a specific machine. Address learning and ageing follow the IEEE 802.1d standard.
Can this switch route between several subnets?
Yes: it handles static routes and policy-based routing, as well as DHCP client, DNS client, ARP and NTP synchronisation. Two VLANs can therefore communicate without going all the way up to the site router.
What does this switch offer against a link failure in a ring?
The ERPS protocol, defined by ITU-T G.8032, restores traffic within a few milliseconds when a link in the ring goes down. STP, RSTP and MSTP remain available for conventional topologies, and LACP aggregation balances the load.
What protection does this switch provide against internal attacks?
Defence against denial-of-service, ARP and ICMP attacks, secure boot, port isolation, blackhole MAC addresses, AAA authentication, CPU protection and DHCP snooping, with a binding table and discarding of non-compliant packets.
How can this switch be updated safely?
Smart upgrade relies on Huawei's online repository: the switch retrieves the recommended upgrade path on its own, downloads the version and applies it with a single command. Preloading reduces both the downtime and the risk of failure.
How is this switch managed?
Through the HUAWEI eKit app, in cloud or local mode, through the web interface, over SSH v2.0 or HTTPS, with system logs and prioritised alarms. The LLDP protocol discovers neighbouring devices, and port mirroring feeds traffic to an analyser.
Is the switch new, and where can I view its datasheet?
