Do the cameras stay powered while the switch restarts?
Yes. Perpetual PoE keeps connected devices powered while the switch restarts, including during a software update. This model is also one of the models that support Fast PoE, which restores power before the boot process has finished.
How are the 400 W of PoE+ shared across the 24 ports?
400 W for all 24 ports combined, each compliant with 802.3at and able to deliver up to 30 W. Twenty-four cameras at 12 W draw less than 300 W; around fifteen power-hungry Wi-Fi access points use up the whole budget. Add up the actual consumption before cabling.
What is special about this model's uplinks?
The four SFP slots run at 2.5 Gbps, not Gigabit: an intermediate speed suited to recent Wi-Fi access points and to links between floors, which avoids squeezing 24 access ports through an output that is too slow.
How many VLANs and MAC addresses does this switch handle?
4,094 VLANs and 16,000 MAC addresses at most, with static, dynamic or blackhole entries to block a specific machine. Learning and ageing follow the IEEE 802.1d standard, with no intervention needed.
Can this switch route between several subnets?
Yes: it supports static routes and policy-based routing, as well as DHCP client, DNS client, ARP and NTP synchronisation. Two VLANs can therefore communicate without going all the way up to the site's router.
What does this switch offer against a link failure in a ring?
The ERPS protocol, standardised as ITU-T G.8032, fails over to the backup path within a few milliseconds. STP, RSTP and MSTP cover conventional topologies, and LACP aggregation combines several links into a single resilient connection.
What protection does this switch provide against internal attacks?
Defence against denial-of-service, ARP and ICMP attacks, secure boot, port isolation, blackhole MAC addresses, AAA authentication, CPU protection and DHCP snooping — which keeps a binding table and rejects any packet not listed in it.
How is this switch managed day to day?
Through the HUAWEI eKit app, in cloud or local mode, through the web interface, over SSH v2.0 or over HTTPS. Monitoring reports logs and prioritised alarms, the LLDP protocol discovers neighbouring devices, and port mirroring feeds an analyser.
How can this switch be updated safely?
Smart upgrade relies on Huawei's online repository: the switch retrieves the recommended upgrade path by itself, downloads the version and applies it with a single command. Preloading shortens the downtime and limits the risk of failure.
Does this model have a fan, and in what conditions does it operate?
Cooling is active, with regulated fan speed — it belongs in a rack cabinet or a comms room. It runs continuously from -5 to +40 °C up to an altitude of 1,800 m, with 5 to 95 % humidity, non-condensing, in a 1U chassis.
