Frequently asked questions about this product

How many PoE devices can I actually power with this switch?
The PoE budget is 180 W in total, shared across the ports — not 180 W per port. The per-port limits are 64 W in PoE++, 32 W in PoE+ and 15.4 W in PoE: two devices drawing 64 W already use 128 W of the budget. Think in cumulative watts, not in number of ports.
Do all the RJ45 ports deliver PoE?
Yes, the 16 RJ45 ports are all powered: 12 Gigabit PoE+ (802.3at) ports and 4 2.5 GbE PoE++ (802.3bt) ports. The two additional SFP+ ports accept 10G or 1G and serve as uplinks, bringing the total to 18 ports.
Does it make any noise in an office or a shared room?
No: cooling is fully passive, fanless, so it is completely silent. The SGCC steel housing dissipates 68 BTU/h excluding PoE output and handles ambient temperatures of -5 to 40 °C, at 10 to 90% non-condensing humidity.
Can it be placed on a desk, or does it have to go in a rack?
All three mounting options are provided: 1U rack, desktop or wall. It measures 325.1 × 160 × 43.7 mm and weighs 2.1 kg, and fits racks 400 to 1,200 mm deep. The housing and mounting hardware are made of SGCC steel.
Is the power supply internal, or do you need an external power brick?
It is external: a 210 W AC/DC power brick (50–54 V DC) that has to be housed in the rack or under the desk. The switch itself consumes only 25 W excluding PoE output, and up to 210 W once PoE is fully loaded.
Can it route between several VLANs without going through a router?
Yes, it is a Layer 3 switch: inter-VLAN routing, static routing, DHCP server and DHCP relay are handled by the switch itself. It supports up to 1,000 VLANs, 512 IPv4 routes and 6,000 ARP entries.
How is it configured, and which software version is required?
Management is done through the UniFi Network platform, version 8.1.127 or later. This is where VLANs, routing, security rules and per-port monitoring are managed. Check the version of your console before installation.
What are the two 10G SFP+ ports for?
They are the uplinks: two 10G ports, backward compatible with 1G, designed to connect the switch to the network core.
Is it suitable for audio and video over IP?
Yes, it is one of its strengths: ready-to-use Pro AV profiles for Dante, Q-SYS, NDI, SDVoE, Shure, AES67 and Crestron, advanced IGMP configuration (querier, fast leave, router port) and support for jumbo frames.
How can you prevent just any device from being plugged into a network socket?
The switch supports 802.1X (port-based authentication), MAC- and IP-based access control lists — 128 entries each —, MAC address restriction, port isolation and DHCP snooping.
Will it handle the load with all ports in use at the same time?
Yes: its 42 Gbps non-blocking throughput matches exactly the sum of its ports (12 × 1G + 4 × 2.5G + 2 × 10G). On top of that come 84 Gbps of switching capacity, 62 Mpps, a 16,000-address MAC table and a 1.5 MB packet buffer.
What are the touchscreen and the port lighting for in everyday use?
The 1.3-inch LCM touchscreen shows the switch status on the front, without opening the interface. Etherlighting™, available on both the Ethernet and SFP+ ports, lights up each port according to its status and link speed.
Is the switch new, certified and under warranty?
Yes: new, genuine and sealed, supplied with its invoice, which serves as the 1-year warranty document. It is CE, FCC, IC and Anatel certified and declared NDAA compliant. Its operating range is -5 to 40 °C, with a tolerated humidity of 10 to 90% non-condensing.
