Frequently asked questions about this product

What are the 4 SFP+ ports on the RG-NBS3200-24GT4XS for?
They are 10 Gbps uplinks, to connect to the network core or to a storage array, so the 24 Gigabit access ports are not bottlenecked on a single uplink. They can be aggregated together — up to 16 aggregation groups of 8 members each, using LACP or static aggregation.
Does this model power devices over PoE?
No: the RG-NBS3200-24GT4XS has no PoE ports and no PoE budget. Cameras and Wi-Fi access points therefore need an injector or the PoE version in the range, the RG-NBS3200-24GT4XS-P with its 370 W budget. In return, this model draws less than 28 W on its own.
What IP address does the switch use when first set up?
The default management address is 10.44.77.200: set your laptop to the same subnet to open the web interface over HTTP or HTTPS. The switch is also a DHCP client, so it can receive an address from your router before being adopted into Ruijie Cloud.
How many VLANs does this switch support, and of which types?
4,094 VLANs, across the whole ID range from 1 to 4094 — without the cap found on entry-level models. Three modes coexist: port-based, MAC-based and IP subnet-based VLANs, plus a voice VLAN for telephony. The MAC address table holds 16,000 entries.
How does the switch protect the network from a cabling loop?
With STP and RSTP, the RLDP loop detection protocol, a dedicated notification and automatic recovery of error-disabled ports. Port Fast mode speeds up bringing access ports into service, and broadcast, multicast and unknown unicast storm suppression prevents a burst from flooding the network.
What protection against address spoofing is available?
IP Source Guard, ARP spoofing protection and DHCP snooping form the basic trio: a machine can no longer pose as the gateway or hand out fake addresses. 802.1X authentication, port-based or MAC-based, with a guest VLAN and a RADIUS server, closes the door upstream.
How many filtering rules can you write, and in which direction?
1,900 rules, applied to incoming traffic. Three types coexist: standard IP list, extended MAC list and extended IP list. Rate limiting, for its part, works in both directions, ingress and egress, port by port.
Is this switch's fan a nuisance in a shared room?
There is only one fan, with adaptive speed, and the noise level stays below 45 dB in normal operation. Airflow runs from left to rear: leave that clearance in the rack. The chassis operates from 0 to 50 °C, a welcome margin in a technical room without air conditioning.
What is in the box, and how much space does the chassis take up?
The box contains the switch, its two rack-mount brackets, the screws, four rubber feet, the power cord and the quick start guide. The chassis measures 440 × 207.5 × 43.6 mm, i.e. 1U and 21 cm deep. SFP+ optical modules need to be bought separately, depending on the distance to cover.
Is video surveillance traffic handled differently?
Yes: the switch automatically recognises connected IP cameras and applies a suitable policy, with storm control to keep the streams stable. IGMP v1, v2 and v3 snooping, backed by IGMP filtering, sends multicast only to the ports that request it instead of flooding all 24 ports.
What diagnostic tools does the interface offer?
A cable test to check the pair at the end of a port, mirroring of several ports to an analyser, ping and traceroute over both IPv4 and IPv6, a system log, LLDP and LLDP-MED for device discovery, and alerts on loops, address conflicts and the MAC table.
Is the switch new, and where can you find its datasheet?
