Frequently asked questions about this product

What does AFC bring to the EAP772's 6 GHz band?
AFC — Automated Frequency Coordination — gives access to a wider 6 GHz spectrum and higher transmit power, by selecting free channels. The signal travels further and stays more stable. Its availability depends on the country, however: check that it is permitted where you are installing.
Does the EAP772 really broadcast on all three bands?
Yes, with two spatial streams per band: 5,765 Mbps on 6 GHz, 4,324 Mbps on 5 GHz and 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, i.e. 9.3 Gbps combined. Channels go up to 320 MHz, the maximum width in Wi-Fi 7.
What power supply does the EAP772 need?
A PoE+ 802.3at port (42.5 to 57 V, 0.6 A) or a 12 V / 2.5 A power supply. Consumption reaches 25.4 W when all three radios are working and the wired link runs at 2.5 Gbps, versus 9.4 W at idle.
Why is the EAP772's network port 2.5 Gbps?
Because its three radios add up to 9.3 Gbps: a Gigabit port would become the bottleneck. The 2.5 Gbps port also negotiates 10, 100 and 1000 Mbps depending on the switch at the other end, and it is also the port that receives PoE.
How many devices can the EAP772 serve at the same time?
More than 380 associated devices, over a stated coverage of 140 m². Density matters more than area here: this is an access point for a busy office floor or a meeting room, not for a large open space.
How many Wi-Fi networks can be created on the EAP772?
24 SSIDs, eight per band, including a secure guest network. Each network can be given its own bandwidth cap, and a per-client cap can also be set.
How can visitors be authenticated on the EAP772?
Through a guest network with a captive portal, and SMS login for establishments that want an identifiable contact. WPA3 also encrypts open public access, and rogue access point detection flags any unauthorised access point.
Can the EAP772 filter the websites visited by guests?
Yes, it provides URL filtering, in addition to automatic channel selection, airtime fairness and band steering. This is useful on a network open to the public, to block certain categories of websites.
What can the EAP772 be mounted on?
Four options, with all kits supplied: ceiling, wall, junction box and false-ceiling T-rail. The enclosure measures 220 × 220 × 32.5 mm and weighs 700 g, one of the slimmest in the category despite its three radios.
Does the EAP772 also act as a Bluetooth gateway?
Yes, it has a built-in omnidirectional 4 dBi Bluetooth 5.2 antenna, designed for IoT uses — compatible sensors, beacons or locks communicate with it without an additional gateway.
Is the EAP772 protected against power surges?
Yes, its Ethernet ports withstand surges of ±4 kV. It operates at 10 to 90 % non-condensing humidity, at altitudes of up to 2,000 m.
How can several EAP772 units be deployed quickly?
Through the Omada SDN platform: the app or the browser detects the access point automatically and adopts it in one click. The configuration is then pushed to all your devices, from the cloud or a local controller.
Is the equipment new and under warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document for 1 year. The manufacturer's full specifications are in this document: EAP772 (PDF).
