Frequently asked questions about this product

Does the ZyXEL GS1915-8 supply PoE?
No, none of its eight ports supplies power. It is the non-PoE version of the GS1915 series: connected cameras and Wi-Fi access points will need their own power adapter or a PoE injector.
What can you configure on this switch?
VLANs, quality of service and SNMP monitoring: it is a smart managed model, not a simple patching switch. You can therefore segment a small network and monitor it from a console.
How much power does this switch add?
Only 4.7 W, for eight managed Gigabit ports. It can stay on permanently without weighing on the electricity bill or on the runtime of a UPS shared with other equipment.
Can the GS1915-8 be rack-mounted?
No: it is not rack-mountable. The unit measures 250 × 104 × 27 mm and weighs 620 g: it sits on a shelf, slips into a cabinet or tucks behind a piece of furniture.
Is this switch ready for IPv6?
Yes, it is IPv6 compatible. It can be managed and monitored on an IPv6 addressing scheme just as well as on IPv4: migrating the network does not mean taking it out of the network closet.
Is the switch new and covered by a warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document. This is the ZyXEL GS1915-8, reference GS1915-8-EU0101F, with eight 100/1000 Mbps ports.
