Do you need a power outlet nearby to power the U7 Outdoor?
No. It is powered by PoE+ (802.3at) through its single RJ45 port: one network cable carries both data and power, for 19 W maximum. In the comms room, you will need a PoE+ switch or an 802.3at injector (42.5 to 57 V DC).
Does this Wi-Fi 7 access point use the 6 GHz band?
No. The U7 Outdoor is dual-band and operates on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. The Wi-Fi 7 gain here comes from 802.11be and channels widened up to 240 MHz, not from a third band.
Can you change the shape of the Wi-Fi coverage to suit the area to be covered?
Yes, and this is what sets the model apart: the internal antenna is directional (12.5 dBi, 45° × 45° on 5 GHz), but two external omnidirectional antennas are supplied, to be screwed onto the RP-SMA connectors, to switch to 360° coverage.
Can the advertised 4.3 Gbps be reached towards the internet?
The 4.3 Gbps is the wireless data rate on 5 GHz with a 240 MHz channel. The wired link, on the other hand, is a single 1/2.5 GbE port: traffic to your network and the internet therefore tops out at 2.5 Gbps, far beyond everyday needs but below the wireless rate.
Can it withstand rain, sun and intense heat?
It is IPX6-certified, meaning it withstands powerful water jets, and operates from −30 to 60 °C at 5 to 95% non-condensing humidity. Its housing combines UV-stabilised polycarbonate and aluminium alloy.
Will it hold up on a wind-exposed pole, and are the mounts included?
Yes. The wall and pole mounts are included, made of polycarbonate and SGCC steel, and take a pole of 25 to 60 mm in diameter. The access point is rated for a wind load of 74.6 N at 200 km/h, and weighs 1.2 kg for 170 × 208 × 54.5 mm.
Do you need a UniFi controller to configure the U7 Outdoor?
It is managed from the UniFi Network platform, version 8.2.93 or later, either on a local controller or from the UniFi cloud. Management is carried out through the access point's Ethernet port.
How many devices can it handle, and over what area?
It is rated for more than 250 concurrent clients over 465 m², with 4 spatial streams (2×2 per band) and uplink and downlink MU-MIMO. Enough to cover a terrace, a school playground or a busy event area.
Can it be deployed as a relay, without running a network cable to it?
Yes for data: wireless meshing is supported, and four blue LEDs show the mesh signal during installation. However, power still comes over PoE+: mesh saves you the data cable, not the power cable.
Can you set up a guest network with a login page and vouchers?
Yes. The captive portal handles a custom landing page, authentication by vouchers, by password or by payment, as well as guest network isolation. You can also limit Wi-Fi bandwidth, isolate clients from one another and set broadcast schedules.
Does the connection stay stable when moving between several access points?
Yes: 802.11r fast roaming is supported, complemented by 802.11k (radio resource management) and 802.11v (assisted transition between access points). Band steering also moves each device to the most suitable band.
Does it meet the security requirements of businesses and public tenders?
It is NDAA-compliant and CE, FCC, IC and Anatel-certified. On the network side, it supports RADIUS over TLS (RadSec), VLANs dynamically assigned by RADIUS and private pre-shared keys (PPSK) to segregate users.
Is this Ubiquiti U7 Outdoor new and covered by a warranty?
Yes: new Ubiquiti equipment, part number U7-Outdoor, supplied with its invoice, which serves as the warranty document for 1 year. The wall and pole mounts and the two external omnidirectional antennas are included in the box.
