Frequently asked questions about this product

Can this small 5-port switch really be configured?
Yes: it has a web interface, with quality of service to prioritise voice and video and Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) against loops. That is rare in such a compact form factor.
Are the ports Gigabit?
No: all five ports are 10/100 Mbps, full duplex. Switching capacity reaches 1.6 Gbps and the MAC address table 1,000 entries — the sizing of a supplementary switch for a small office.
How much power does this switch use?
1.87 W, in normal use and at maximum alike, for 6.4 BTU/h of heat. The power cable and the manual come with the unit, which runs on 220 V at 50 Hz.
What is the STP protocol for on this switch?
To stop a cabling loop from flooding the network: Spanning Tree detects the redundant path and blocks it. On a small switch that often gets moved around, it is a safeguard that prevents many unexplained outages.
How much space does this switch take up on a desk?
104 × 70 × 22 mm: it slips behind a monitor or into a drawer. Rack mounting is not supported, and auto MDI/MDI-X means you need not worry about which type of cable is connected.
Is the switch new and covered by a warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document. This is the TP-Link TL-SF1005D, version V15, FCC and RoHS certified, which operates from 0 to 40 °C at 10 to 90% humidity.
