Frequently asked questions about this product

Does this SSD protect data during a power cut?
Yes, it features power loss protection: this is what sets the SNV3500 series apart from its younger sibling. Writes in progress are secured in the flash memory instead of being lost, which prevents cache corruption in the event of an unexpected shutdown.
How does this 22110 SSD install in a Synology NAS?
Through the E10M20-T1 or M2D20 expansion cards. The M.2 22110 form factor is 110 mm long, compared with 80 mm for a 2280: that extra length houses the protection capacitors, and it is why the drive has to go on a card rather than in a short slot.
Are the advertised 3,100 MB/s sustained over time?
Yes, these are sustained speeds, not peaks: 3,100 MB/s read and 1,000 MB/s write, measured in full sustained mode under the JEDEC JESD219A enterprise workload. That is the difference between a professional cache drive and a consumer model working in bursts.
What is the write endurance of this 800 GB SSD?
1,022 TB, or more than a petabyte, measured under the JESD219A enterprise workload. The warranty covers the drive until the end of its period or until this endurance is used up, whichever comes first: on a heavily used cache, the endurance is often reached first.
How good are its random IOPS for a NAS cache?
400,000 random read IOPS and 70,000 write, on 4 KB blocks at high queue depth and in sustained mode. These small accesses are what the cache absorbs in place of the spinning hard drives, on shares accessed by many users at once.
How much power does it draw in an always-on NAS?
6.2 W in active read, 5.1 W in active write and 1.7 W at idle. In a storage system running all year round, the idle figure matters most, since most of the hours are spent waiting for requests. Also allow for the corresponding heat when calculating ventilation.
How can you monitor the drive's wear from the NAS?
Directly from DSM. Synology drives report a health status calculated from the workload actually endured, send notifications before the threshold is crossed, and accept one-click firmware updates, without going through a third-party utility.
In what temperature conditions does this SSD operate?
From 0 to 70 °C in operation, and from -40 to 85 °C when powered off. Every drive in the series is validated through stress tests covering intensive I/O, power cycling and temperature before being declared compatible with Synology systems.
Is the drive new, and how long is the warranty?
It is new and covered for 3 years, with your invoice serving as the warranty document. This cover ends at the end of the period or when the endurance is used up, whichever comes first. The datasheet gives the details.
