What PoE budget does the Aruba 2530-24-PoE+ offer?
195 W shared across its 24 PoE+ ports, to the 802.3at standard (30 W maximum per port). Enough to power around twenty IP phones or standard cameras, or about ten more power-hungry devices.
Are the 24 PoE+ ports on this switch Gigabit?
No: they run at 10/100 Mbps. Gigabit is reserved for the two 10/100/1000 ports and the two SFP fibre slots, which serve as uplinks. This is an access switch for phones, cameras and office workstations.
What security features does this switch apply?
Access control lists, source port filtering, port security and RADIUS or TACACS+ authentication, with SSL-protected management access. The range supports ClearPass Policy Manager to apply the same policy to wired and Wi-Fi connections.
Can several Aruba 2530-24-PoE+ switches be stacked?
Yes, through virtual stacking of up to 16 units: the switches remain separate chassis but are managed as a single group, from Aruba Central in the cloud or Aruba AirWave on site.
How can you access the switch if the network is down?
Through the out-of-band management port, via RS-232C serial or micro USB. During normal operation, the command-line interface, web browser, configuration menu and IMC console remain available.
What performance and latency does this switch claim?
12.8 Gbps of capacity and up to 9.5 Mpps, with a 16,000-address MAC table. Latency stays below 1.7 µs at 100 Mbps and below 1.1 µs at Gigabit. The 800 MHz ARM9E processor is backed by 128 MB of flash and 256 MB of DDR3.
How much power should you allow for this switch?
237 W maximum, once the 195 W of PoE is being delivered, for 99 BTU/h of heat, on a 100-127 or 200-240 V power supply. This is the figure that sizes the UPS, not the idle consumption.
How much rack space does this switch take up?
442 × 322.6 × 44.5 mm and 3.81 kg: 1U high, 32 cm deep. Plan for a standard 19-inch rack — a shallow wall-mount cabinet will not do.
Is the switch new and covered by a warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document. The manufacturer's documentation is available in the Aruba 2530 24 PoE+ (J9779A) datasheet. The box contains the switch only.
