Are the 24 ports of the HP Aruba 2530-24 Gigabit?
No: the 24 RJ-45 ports are 10/100 Mbps. Gigabit is reserved for the two 10/100/1000 ports and the two SFP fibre slots, which serve as uplinks. It is an access switch for workstations, printers and phones.
What security features does this switch apply?
Access control lists, source-port filtering, port security and RADIUS or TACACS+ authentication, with SSL-protected administrative access. You partition traffic and control who connects to which socket.
Does this switch support a dedicated VLAN for IP telephony?
Yes, a voice VLAN, combined with LLDP-MED: IP phones announce themselves when plugged in and join the right network without manual port-by-port configuration. Voice traffic thus stays separate from workstation traffic.
How can a redundant topology be protected with this switch?
With IEEE 802.1s Multiple Spanning Tree (MSTP), which blocks loops while spreading VLANs across several paths, and with link aggregation, which combines several cables into a single, wider, fault-tolerant link.
