Frequently asked questions about this product

How is the 370 W of PoE+ shared across the 48 ports?
370 W shared by all 48 ports, in Class 4 (802.3af/at), up to 30 W per port. Thirty cameras at 12 W already use most of the budget: it is the power budget, not the number of ports, that sets the real limit of a Wi-Fi or video surveillance deployment.
What speed do the uplinks on this 48-port model offer?
Four 10 Gbps SFP+ slots to connect up to the aggregation layer or the network core. Switching capacity reaches 176 Gbps for 98.6 Mpps, with a 12.38 MB buffer: the 48 access ports do not bottleneck on the way out.
How many VLANs can be active at the same time?
512 active VLANs, taken from the full 802.1Q range, with 802.3ad LACP aggregation of up to eight groups and loop protection through MSTP and RSTP. 802.1p/DiffServ quality of service prioritises voice and video on saturated links.
Can this switch route between VLANs?
Yes, with static routing for IPv4 and IPv6, with a dual stack so that both protocols can coexist. Traffic between segmented departments stays within the switch instead of going up to the router, which lightens the load on the uplink on a busy floor.
How is this switch deployed at a new site?
Through Zero Touch Provisioning: once plugged in, it retrieves its own configuration. Monitoring is then done through Aruba Central, in the cloud or on-premises, with a unified view of wired, Wi-Fi and WAN. The embedded software is activated without a subscription.
Can the configuration of several switches be automated?
Yes, through the REST API built into AOS-CX: changes are scripted instead of being entered port by port. The Switch Multi-Edit software also applies the same change to several devices in a single operation.
What network access protections does this model offer?
IPv4 and IPv6 access control lists, RADIUS and TACACS+ authentication, and management security that restricts access to critical commands through privilege levels. Enough to control what comes in on 48 outlets spread across a building.
Are jumbo frames supported for backups?
Yes: jumbo frame support improves the performance of backups and large transfers, provided that servers and network cards are set to the same size. At the same time, IGMP snooping avoids flooding all 48 ports with multicast traffic.
Does this PoE chassis have fans, and where should it be installed?
Yes, it is cooled by fans with side-to-side airflow: only the compact 12-port model in the CX family does without fans. It belongs in a rack or a network room, with the supplied 1U mounting kit, not on a desk where people work.
Is the switch new and covered by a warranty?
Yes, new equipment with a 3-year warranty, with the invoice serving as the warranty document. The manufacturer's document details the CX 6100 series and lets you compare the PoE and non-PoE models: PDF datasheet.
