How many of the TL-SG105PE's ports supply PoE?
Four of the five Gigabit ports deliver 802.3at PoE+, at up to 30 W each, within a total budget of 65 W. Enough to power two Wi-Fi access points and two IP cameras, or one power-hungry PTZ camera along with a few small devices.
How many VLANs can you create on the TL-SG105PE?
Up to 4,000 VLANs, as port-based VLANs or 802.1Q tagged VLANs. On five ports, this mainly means the switch will never be what limits your addressing plan: it slots straight into an existing VLAN numbering scheme.
How is this managed switch configured?
Through a web interface, on a Layer 2 managed switch. There you set up VLANs, quality of service, link aggregation, port mirroring, rate limiting and broadcast storm control.
Can port mirroring be used to analyse traffic?
Yes: the TL-SG105PE copies the traffic of one port to another, where you connect an analyser. Loop prevention rounds out the diagnostic tools by cutting off a cable looped back by mistake before it floods the network.
Is this switch noisy in an office?
No: it has no fan and therefore runs silently. Its desktop casing measures 99.8 × 98 × 25 mm: it sits behind a monitor or in an enclosure without requiring a rack.
What power supply does the TL-SG105PE need?
An external 53.5 V / 1.31 A adapter, supplied with the switch. Power consumption reaches 75.16 W at most once the 65 W of PoE is being delivered, for a heat dissipation of 256.3 BTU/h.
Does the switch support jumbo frames?
Yes, up to 16,000 bytes, useful for transfers to a storage server or a video recorder. It has four quality of service queues, 1 MB of buffer memory and a 2,000-entry MAC address table.
Does the TL-SG105PE handle multicast streams?
Yes, through IGMP filtering: multicast streams only go to the ports that request them. On a small network where cameras and computers share the switch, this stops a video stream from needlessly tying up every outlet.
What raw performance does this switch offer?
10 Gbps of switching capacity and 7.44 Mpps in store-and-forward mode, over five auto-negotiating Gigabit ports with auto MDI/MDI-X. Cabling from category 3 to category 6 is supported.
What temperature range does this switch operate in?
From 0 to 40 °C, at 10 to 90% relative humidity. It is designed for an office or a small room, not for an outdoor enclosure exposed to the sun.
Is the switch new and covered by a warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document. The TL-SG105PE is FCC, CE and RoHS certified, and its power adapter is included in the box along with the user guide.
