Frequently asked questions about this product

How long does the Aster 3K last depending on the connected load?
The full curve is known: 25 minutes at 25% load, 11 minutes at 50%, 5 min 20 s at 75% and 3 min 20 s at full load. Runtime collapses as the load on the UPS increases: that is the real sizing criterion, far more than the rated VA.
What input voltage does the Aster 3K accept before switching to battery?
From 80 to 300 V, with an accepted frequency of 40 to 70 Hz with auto-sensing. That is an exceptionally wide window: on a grid that regularly sags to low voltage, the UPS keeps regenerating the power instead of drawing on the battery.
Is the transfer time really zero in double conversion?
Yes, the transfer time is rated at zero: the power is continuously rebuilt, so your equipment is already being powered by the UPS before the outage even occurs. The output waveform is a pure sine wave, with distortion of 5% or less on a non-linear load.
What happens if you exceed the UPS's power rating?
The response is graduated. On mains: between 105 and 110%, a simple alarm; between 110 and 120%, transfer to bypass after 60 seconds; above 120%, immediate transfer. On battery, it is stricter: shutdown after 10 seconds between 110 and 120%, immediate shutdown above that.
Can the Aster 3K be installed in a rack and as a tower?
Yes, the chassis is convertible: 2U in a rack or standing as a tower. Allow for 438 mm wide, 610 mm deep and 88 mm high at 26 kg — the 61 cm depth is the point to check in a shallow cabinet.
What sockets does the Aster 3K have, on both input and output?
On the output, eight C13 outlets — the format used by server power cords — and one heavy-duty C19 outlet for a high-current device. On the input, a C20 inlet, also heavy-duty: the power cord is not an ordinary computer cord.
Can the Aster 3K's runtime be extended?
Yes, an external battery pack is available as an option, in addition to the six internal batteries. The UPS also recharges its batteries to 90% in 4 hours, and battery replacement is designed to be straightforward.
Does the Aster 3K work with a generator?
Yes, generator compatibility is stated. Combined with the 80 to 300 V input range and cold start, this is what allows it to be used where the grid is truly unstable, including starting up with no mains present.
What is the UPS's actual efficiency, mode by mode?
91% or more in online mode, 88% or more in battery mode, and 97% or more in ECO mode. ECO mode saves energy but bypasses part of the power conditioning: keep it for periods when the grid is clean.
How do you monitor the Aster 3K and shut servers down automatically?
Four interfaces: USB HID, RS-232, SNMP and an EPO emergency power-off contact. Network monitoring requires an optional SNMP card; the PowerGuide and PowerMaster software handle graceful shutdown over USB or serial.
What does the Aster 3K's display show?
A multifunction colour LCD screen shows the UPS status, load level, battery level, input and output voltages, the discharge countdown and faults. It is this countdown that shows you, live, how much runtime you have left.
Can two Aster 3K units be run in parallel to double the power?
No, parallel operation is not supported on this model. For more power, you need to move up to a higher-capacity UPS; for more runtime, on the other hand, the optional external battery pack does the job.
Is the nJoy Aster 3K UPS new and under warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document, for 3 years. Its noise level stays below 45 dB, which, unlike many UPSs of this power, allows it to stay in an office rather than a technical room. The datasheet covers the rest.
