How many of the GWN7711P's ports provide PoE?
Four out of eight. These four ports deliver PoE or PoE+ (802.3af/at) at up to 30 W each, within a total budget of 60 W. The other four ports carry data only: plan where your cameras and access points go accordingly.
Can a camera's power be switched off at a set time?
Yes: priority levels and power scheduling are set port by port. A Wi-Fi access point can therefore switch itself off at night, and the port with the highest priority stays powered if the 60 W budget runs short.
How do I segment the network with this switch?
With IEEE 802.1Q VLANs and port-based VLAN isolation: cameras, workstations and the guest network stay separate on the same 8-port unit. MAC address filtering completes the setup.
How can I track down a network fault from this switch?
Two built-in tools: loop detection, which spots a cable looped back on itself before it saturates the network, and port mirroring, which copies a port's traffic to an analyser. Storm control also limits broadcast bursts.
How is this switch managed day to day?
Through the local web interface or GWN.Cloud, as you prefer. Configuration backup and restore, as well as firmware upgrades, are done remotely, which saves a site visit for every maintenance task.
Where can this switch be installed, and is it noisy?
On a desk or mounted on a wall: the casing is metal and the switch is fanless, so it runs in complete silence. That is what makes it suitable for a hotel lobby, a reception desk or a busy small office.
How many links can be aggregated on this 8-port model?
Link aggregation is supported: two ports combined towards the router or core switch double the uplink bandwidth and keep the connection up if one cable fails. IGMP snooping also prevents multicast traffic from flooding the ports.
Is the switch new and covered by a warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document. This is the Grandstream GWN7711P, the PoE version of the GWN7711, a Layer 2 managed switch designed for hotels, small offices and SMEs.
