Frequently asked questions about this product
How are the ports on the HP 2910-48G-PoE+ laid out?
44 Gigabit 10/100/1000 ports and 4 dual-personality ports, usable as Gigabit RJ-45 or as mini-GBIC slots for fibre. An RJ-45 serial console port completes the front panel for local management.
Does this switch route between VLANs?
Yes: it combines Layers 2 and 3, with IP routing, DHCP client and server, and a 2,000-entry routing table. Traffic between internal segments is handled within the switch, without going through the Internet access router.
What performance does this 48-port switch offer?
176 Gbps of switching capacity and up to 131 Mpps, with latency below 2.9 µs at Gigabit and 1.3 µs at 10 Gbps. It runs on a dual-core ARM1156T2S at 515 MHz with 512 MB of memory.
How do you manage this switch when the network is down?
Through out-of-band management over RS-232C serial, on the front-panel console port. In normal operation, the command-line interface, the web browser and the HP PCM+ console are available, with SNMP v1, v2c and v3 monitoring.
What monitoring tools does this switch provide?
sFlow, XRMON and four RMON groups — statistics, history, alarms and events —, with LLDP and LLDP-MED to discover neighbouring devices and IP phones. Port mirroring also lets you connect an analyser.
Does the HP 2910-48G-PoE+ support jumbo frames?
Yes, alongside flow control, rate limiting and broadcast storm control. Link aggregation and the Spanning Tree protocol provide redundancy for the uplinks.
How much electrical power should you plan for in the rack?
Up to 556 W, PoE+ included: this switch powers cameras, Wi-Fi access points and phones through its ports. The chassis weighs 5.88 kg and measures 442.5 × 365.8 × 43.9 mm, i.e. 1U high and 36 cm deep.
Is the switch new and covered by a warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document. This is the HP 2910-48G-PoE+ al, part number J9148A, stackable and designed for 19-inch rack mounting.
