Eaton 9SX 5000i 5000 VA Online UPS - RT3U (9SX5KiRT)

4,500 W usable thanks to the 0.9 power factor, and around 13 minutes of runtime at 50% load (2,250 W): time enough to shut a rack down cleanly. The software included shuts the servers down on its own when the battery runs low.

Product overview

High-end online UPS, convertible to rack or tower: online double-conversion, 5000 VA / 4500 W, 3U form factor.
Technology & protection: power is fully regenerated, continuously — your servers never touch the mains, with no transfer time. Complete protection against power cuts, surges, voltage fluctuations and electrical noise.
Power: 5000 VA for 4500 W of usable power (power factor of 0.9) — almost all of the rated power is available in watts.
Runtime: approx. 13 minutes at half load (2250 W), 10 minutes at 70%.

Frequently asked questions about this product

How long does the 9SX 5000i last on battery?
13 minutes at 50% load, i.e. 2250 W, and 10 minutes at 70%, i.e. 3150 W. Runtime can be extended with hot-swappable external battery modules, which the UPS detects automatically.
What exactly is in the 9SX 5000i box?
The UPS, two IEC-IEC cords, two rack-mount kits, a cable locking system and the safety instructions. Rack mounting therefore requires no additional accessories.
Does this 5 kVA unit really deliver 4500 W of usable power?
Yes, thanks to its 0.9 power factor: 5000 × 0.9 = 4500 W. The 9SX also has built-in input power factor correction, which limits the harmonic pollution sent back onto the grid.
What outputs does the 9SX 5000i offer?
Eight C13 outlets, two heavy-duty C19 outlets and a terminal block output. The input is on a terminal block: fixed wiring, to be done by an electrician before commissioning.
Can some equipment be shut down before the rest during an outage?
Yes: two controllable outlet groups let you switch off non-essential equipment first and save the battery for critical machines. That is extra runtime gained with no additional hardware.
How do you cleanly shut down virtualised servers?
The Intelligent Power software is supplied and covers VMware and Hyper-V environments. It communicates with the UPS via the USB port or the RS-232 serial port — the two cannot be used at the same time.
Can the 9SX 5000i be installed in a rack or as a tower?
Both: a convertible 3U chassis measuring 440 × 130 × 685 mm and weighing 48 kg, with a multilingual graphic LCD screen that rotates to suit the chosen position. At this weight, rack mounting is a two-person job.
Does power keep flowing if the UPS develops a fault?
Yes, an internal bypass keeps the load supplied if the UPS fails or in the event of a downstream short circuit. The unit also measures its own energy consumption, which is shown on the screen.
Is the network management card included?
No: it is only included as standard on the Netpack versions. On this model, the slot is free and accepts a Network-MS (SNMP), ModBus-MS or Relay-MS dry-contact card, to be ordered separately.
Is the Eaton 9SX 5000i (9SX5KIRT) new and under warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document, for 2 years. It delivers a sine wave, stays below 45 dB and has batteries that are hot-swappable from the front panel. The datasheet covers the rest.
