Frequently asked questions about this product

Does the GWN7806 power devices over PoE?
No: this is the non-PoE version in the series. Its 48 Gigabit ports carry data only. The GWN7806P, its counterpart, powers all 48 ports within a 400 W budget.
What are the 6 SFP+ slots on this switch used for?
They are 10 Gbps links: uplink to the network core, connection to a server or a storage array, fibre interconnection between buildings. Six slots, on a chassis that already lines up 48 Gigabit access ports.
How many VLANs and MAC addresses does this chassis handle?
4,000 VLANs and a table of 32,000 MAC addresses — twice that of the 24-port models in the series. VLANs are assigned per port or by 802.1Q tagging, with a voice VLAN dedicated to telephony.
How many links can be aggregated to the network core?
Up to 27 aggregation groups, with STP, RSTP and MSTP spanning tree for redundant topologies. Switching capacity reaches 216 Gbps at 160.7 Mpps, with 16 MB of buffer memory.
Does this chassis have fans, and where should it be installed?
Three automatically regulated fans cool it: it belongs in a rack or a technical room. It takes up 1U in 19-inch format, mounting kits included.
What electrical protection does this switch offer?
Surge protection of up to 6 kV, which matters on a chassis that brings together 48 copper links from across a whole building — every cable being an entry point for an electrical transient.
How is this switch managed day to day?
Through the local web interface, the command line or SNMP, and remotely via GWN.Cloud or GWN Manager, the platform installed on your own server. All three options coexist with no additional licence.
Is the switch new, and where can I view its datasheet?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document. The manufacturer's document details the GWN7806 and its PoE version, with capacities, security and environmental conditions: datasheet (PDF).
