Frequently asked questions about this product

What is the difference between the 195 W and 370 W versions of the 1930 24G PoE?
The PoE budget: this JL684A part number offers 370 W, compared with 195 W for the JL683A. Same number of ports, same features — what changes is the power reserve, and therefore the number of power-hungry access points or cameras you can power.
How many devices can the 370 W power?
370 W shared across the 24 ports, up to 30 W each. Twenty-four 12 W cameras draw less than 300 W and fit without any trade-offs; a dozen power-hungry Wi-Fi access points, on the other hand, exhaust the budget.
What speed do the 4 uplinks reach?
They are 1G/10G SFP+ slots: you start at Gigabit and then move to 10 Gigabit without changing the switch. Latency drops below 1.3 µs on a 10G link, compared with 2.4 µs on Gigabit copper.
How many VLANs can be created on this switch?
256 simultaneous VLANs, with IDs between 2 and 4093. A dedicated management VLAN restricts access to the interface, and the auto voice VLAN recognises IP phones to prioritise their traffic.
Can this switch let two VLANs communicate?
Yes, with static IPv4 routing: each VLAN is given its address, manually or via DHCP, up to a limit of 32 static entries. This is what sets Layer 2+ apart from a basic access switch.
Is a subscription needed to manage this switch?
No: all features are included in the price of the hardware, with no licence or subscription. Management is done from the Instant On mobile app, the hosted web portal, the local web interface or an SNMP manager.
Which IP address should you use for the first connection?
The switch starts as a DHCP client and takes the address provided by the router; with no DHCP server on the link, it takes the fixed address 192.168.1.1. The local web interface accepts five simultaneous sessions.
What internal performance does this 24-port model offer?
128 Gbps of switching capacity and 95.23 Mpps, with a table of 16,000 MAC addresses. The chassis is 1U rack-mountable in a 19-inch rack, for installation in a rack or cabinet.
Is the switch new, and where can I find its documentation?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document. The manufacturer's document details the Instant On 1930 series and compares its seven models, PoE and non-PoE: datasheet (PDF).
